Midbar Installation Art

Midbar is an audio- visual interactive installation utilizing augmented reality technologies. In this installation, the spectator will experience a 15 min interactive adventure about immigration and relocation. The main goal is to invite the spectator to cogitate about the complex identity of immigrants. The installation includes a storytelling intimate narrator experience entering the artist’s world. The narrator created a trajectory guiding the spectator though the installation.

As a Jewish Israeli American, I have a great affiliation to the desert. Its biblical symbols and philosophy is the core of my linguistic semantics. The desert has a strong kinship to Israeli culture, diaspora, nomads, and the Old Testament. I find the writings of Judah (Yehuda) Halevi, a medieval Spanish Jewish poet, philosopher and physician sharing my complex hybrid identity: “My heart is in the East, but I am in the West.” This poem about the Jewish diaspora belongs to the essential Israeli canon. I plan to create an installation in which a solo spectator encounters dichotomy between this split identity where the person is between East and the West.

Duration: 15-20min
